Leaving on a jet plane...

Island Bliss Weddings is "somewhat" on vacation. My family and I are heading to the mainland to enjoy our traditional Lobsterfest with my in-laws. It's a great day for us, but a bad day for lobsters. I will have email access while I'm away but limited time to respond. For any emergencies, please give us a call at 340-514-2685.

True love...

I could wax on about how only a truly smitten man would agree to wear hot pink sparkly flip flops on his wedding day, but the bride insisted she did not ask him to do it! I of course noticed the bride's shoes right away and thought they were fabulous...it was seriously at least 20 minutes later that I realized the groom had on a matching pair!

Shhhhhhh!!

Very exciting wedding last night! It's definitely not rare for a bride & groom to come to the island alone to be married. Leaving friends & family at home can, let's be honest, make things a bit less stressful and relaxing! But for the most part, everyone back home is aware of the plans and the newlyweds head back for a fun at-home reception. It is rare these days that an elopement isn't a surprise for everyone but such was the case for our wedding yesterday. I think the only people that new these two were getting married was the officiant, the photographer, the hair & make-up artist and myself!

And of course, I wanted to blog this morning about her fabulous hair accessory (you know how much I love accessories!) but just as I was editing the photo, I realized....what if someone back home might have suspected something was up? What if someone is snooping on her computer and finds my blog in her favorites list? Hmmm...so, you'll have to wait til next week. For now, I will only post this very non-descript photo captured by Blue Glass Photography. This was sunset at Lime Tree Beach, also known as Bluebeard's Beach Club.

Cheers! It was very fun planning an true, traditional elopement!

Vegas Nightclub or Island Bliss Reception?

You guessed it! Island Bliss reception rockin' the pool party.

Everyone was so dignified and beautiful during dinner...then they all got wet & wild! Villa Rhapsody on St. John is just the perfect location for both. Notice the lights in the background? Gorgeous sunset views of St. Thomas (before everyone jumped in the pool that is).

A local find...

A lot of brides will ask me for ideas on locally made products to give to their guests as gifts. Well, I think I just found my new favorite. Check out Isola Bella.

Gina Feddersen is a local artist, producing locally made items for the home as well as beautiful stationary. My favorite item for weddings would be the natural cotton canvas wine tote...with the seahorse print of course...

Instead of wine, I'd drop a bottle of Cruzan Rum inside!

Her stationary would be great in the welcome bags or used as thank you notes...

Don't forget to check out her blog!

Something Blue, something so cool!

It's no secret that I'm a BIG fan of etsy.com - I browse through there a few times each week. Just hopped on to the homepage today and saw this featured item and fell.in.love!

My husband would kill me if I bought another purse (yes ladies, rethink marriage because you will now have to justify purse purchases - are you ready for that???). The listing says this is a great gift for your bridesmaids and while I don't disagree, I can't help but think how perfect it is for the destination bride. The interior is blue silk (something blue??) with lovely embroidered blue coral. How cute is this?

Check out other great listings by LaVitaLola.

Hitting the High Seas

I love boat weddings, they are so unique and so much fun for your guests. I think it takes a certain type of couple to want one of these weddings though. They are not your traditional, walk down the aisle type affairs. They usually end with the bride & groom jumping off the boat in their wedding clothes! I always get such positive feedback from guests though, how much fun they had, how they will always remember this wedding, etc. They really end up being a great value too - the boat provides breakfast, lunch, snacks, FULL open bar (no skimping on the bar with any boat company!) and snorkel equipment. Yes, I said snorkel equipment. You don't get that included too many times with traditional weddings, whether they are destination weddings or not! You can chose to do a full day event, 1/2 day event, sunset cruise, etc. Lots of different options - with the ceremony on the beach and the reception on the boat following or both on board.

I grabbed a few shots to share with you from a wedding this past weekend. Here are the guests, getting used to the boat, nice background, huh?

The bride and her father, walking down the "aisle"...

Not a bad ceremony site!

And their off to the reception - Honeymoon Beach on St. John for snorkeling and swimming!

If you want to stay a little more traditional with the wedding, don't overlook this option for a very fun welcome party or post-wedding brunch.
